Publius Scipio steps up to the podium in the forum. He speaks to a mixed crowd of equites and plebians:
Romans, We have done well in ridding ourselves of the taint of the Visigoth horde. Our men at arms are owed thanks, along with our very people, who arose to shake off the invaders like a dog shakes of fleas.
But there is corruption remaining. There are many who cooperated with Beralic, and sought his favors like a cur seeks table scraps. So I propose the following. Board to consist of the two tribunes and commission of three members of the equite class to be elected by amongst their brethren and all those in public office shall be vetted. Those with no evidence of cooperation shall be free to continue in public office. Those found to have cooperated will be stripped of the right to public office by a majority vote of the vetting commission. Only by unanimous vote may a collaborator of an grevious nature be put to death. Any man who resigns public office, and agrees to retire to public life may avoid standing before vetting commission, thus giving those who have done ill to their brothers to avoid ruining their reputation, yet cleansing our government of Beralic's parasites.
What say you to this proposal?

I agree with this proposal. Those who supported the Visigoths do not deserve to hold public office

"I also agree. We do not need any trace of those barbarians within this city. This is a civilised city, which should stand above all others."

Yes. Barbarians like the Visigoths do not have the brains to be politicians and they do not deserve it.

"The traitors we have are the current senators and some of the consuls who lost their loyalty for Rome. I suggest the soon to come Praetor will have trials for treason soon against these Romans."

Gracchus Antonius I would agree with you in theory. But as it stands now those corrupt senators will nominate the next praetor from among their number. We shall never see justice in the usual format, this is why i suggested the abnormal vetting commission.

I agree to the proposal, anything to re-establish the greatness that we have not seen since our childhood, however, I feel that those who supported Visigoth reign should be arrested and tried for crimes of treason, and if their crimes were large enough (killing loyal Romans a decade ago, or a similar crime), they should be killed.

Agreed. Perhaps by a vote of the commission the case could than be referred to the courts for a treason trial?

Treason Trial sounds good and I think the plebians would like it too.

Very well. as I have heard no complaints, I put it to a vote. All equites in favor of establishing a vetting commission to judge which of the present government should be tried for treason Say Aye. All Opposed say Nay.
I vote Aye.

Very well. Unless anyone has any objections, I say this job be taken up by Claudius Oppius, Cornelius Titus, and myself. I apologize for nominating myself, but as it was my proposal if it is a flop I should be in a position to acquire the blame.
