Greetings my brothers,
I am Pater Familias Publius Scipio, and I welcome you to the ancient roman family of the Scipii. We are an august and noble House and it is my firm expectation that we will continue to be so as long as our blood lines flow. It is expected that you will be honorable in your dealings, respectful in your conversations, and loyal to your country and to your family. We should not, and will not, tolerate those who are deceitful, corrupt or tyrannical in their moral leanings.
From the earliest days of our ancestors we have been a house of military honor, and led the legions of our homeland to glorious victory, from the walls of Carthage to the frozen forests of Gaul we have served with strength and honor. I expect that we will continue to uphold that tradition.
We have held public office, and brought public service to the plebians in need, and we will continue to do so, particularly in positions which emphasis the defense of the republic and its laws.
And we have brought honor to the gods as their priests and flamen. I urge us to dedicate our service to the gods of war, justice, and good roman virtues. While other gods such as those of wine and pleasure or wealth and mercantilism are great and mighty as well, those that romans turn to in times of distress is where we will be needed in their service.
I recommend that every male of this house enlist in the Legions (or the fleet if this service suits you). You will earn useful skills, the ability to lead, and the respect of your fellows. Also, given roman politics, it will always be to this family's benefits to have the loyalty of men under arms. Others will not always be legitimate in their quest for power, as we will be. We should be prepared to serve as the Republic's loyal defenders at a moment's notice.
You should support your brethren in elections for tribune or other positions, unless you have a utterly compelling reason not to do so. If a Scipio's behavior has been so grevious that you can not vote for them, you should inform me of this immediately. Likewise if you dispute them in their statements in the forum or senate floor, It is best to mediate such concerns quietly, so as to present a united front.
As for plans for the future. This family has always had a strong connection with the lands of Sicilia, having drawn strong men from there to fight in our legions, built fortresses and temples there. I suggest we do so again as a place outside of Rome where we can find safety and succor should the worst befalls us in the capital.
If you have any questions contact me personally, and I shall be glad to assist you in any and all things.
